There has been a sensational new discovery in the field of antioxidants, Molecular Hydrogen. And, the claims are that it is the most powerful antioxidant known.
The best part is that Molecular Hydrogen selectively eliminates the deadly hydroxyl radical, while preserving some useful free radicals that the body actually needs to perform well - a mechanism called REDOX signaling. It turns out that a smidge of free radicals are needed, to challenge the body, so it can activate its own protective pathways.
It has emerged that too much and too many antioxidants could be harmful. But it has been agreed that hydroxyl is bad and we want rid of it, all of it.
Molecular Hydrogen
What Else Does It Do? It supports ATP production. That's the "energy molecule" made by mitochondria, our cellular energy house. Buzzing mitochondria, in turn creates: - A faster more efficient metabolism - Promotes quicker healing and boosts faster body repair - Reduces inflammation - Improves sports and fitness performance
There are other less obvious benefits, showing how good this "fountain of youth" molecule is: - It speeds healing after head injuries. - It aids coronary perfusion, which helps heart disease due to restricted coronary arteries. - It restores a damaged liver and can aid with kidney healing, eye conditions and maintain the blood-brain barrier at healthy efficiency. That's just for starters (all in published scientific research, by the way).
When taking Molecular Hydrogen, blood levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) drop. That's important because MDA is a marker of lipid peroxidation (bad). It also lowers myeloperoxidase, a marker of oxidative damage, proving it's mopping up trouble. And it lowers 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, which we know indicates DNA damage (don't you just wish they'd come up with some simple English words, like mopper-upper and damage-blocker?)
In rats it helps Parkinsonism (no human studies yet) and also benefits Alzheimer's which is, above all else, an inflammatory condition, never mind the plaques.
In fact the nervous and neurological tissues LOVE molecular hydrogen. Apart from brain damage responses, it also speeds recovery from spinal cord damage and reduces cell loss, meaning less chance of paralysis from a cord injury.
All this was far in excess of results from just classical antioxidants, including vitamin E, folic acid and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA).
Protection From Cancer Treatments Another remarkable gift from Molecular Hydrogen is that it protects against certain ghastly damage from cancer chemo agents and radiation too. If you or anyone you know are contemplating allowing an oncologist to dose you, please be sure to include molecular hydrogen in your routine. I can't say it will fully protect you but it will help enormously and it does not block the effective action of the chemo or radiation which is, after all, to kill cancer cells.
It protects the kidneys from damage by chemo and, surprisingly, from damage during dialysis. Dialysis sounds great in principle, but you know patients don't survive it more than a few years because it is pretty inflammatory.
"Recently, many studies have reported that H2 (inhaled or orally ingested...), can exert beneficial effects in diverse animal models of ischaemia injury (shut off blood supply), and inflammatory and neurological disease. In the clinic, oral administration of H2-saturated water is reported to improve lipid and glucose metabolism in subjects with diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance; promising results have also been obtained in reducing inflammation in haemodialysis patients and treating metabolic syndrome. In summary, H2 can counter side-effects commonly seen during chemotherapy, radiotherapy and haemodialysis, thereby improving the patient's quality of life." - Hong, Y., Chen, S., & Zhang, J. (2010). Bipolar And Schizophrenia Studies show that it benefits bipolar and schizophrenia and is, of course, a far less vile therapy than SSRIs, risperdal, haloperidol and chlorpromazine, MAOIs, etc. which have been known to tear people to pieces, never mind heal them.
