Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is not very bio-available and needs to be activated. It requires heat, piperine and a healthy fat to make it suitable for the body to absorb efficiently. By activating it in the following manner, it will become a therapeutic dose.
How To Make Activated Turmeric
Place half a cup of organic turmeric powder into a stainless steel saucepan with 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder and a cup of water. Stir to combine. Place over a medium heat and bring to a simmer. Slowly simmer for 10 minutes, stirring continuously and adding more water as needed. At the end of the 10 minutes, the paste should be the consistency of thick yoghurt. Place in a glass container to cool. Then cover and store in the fridge. Use this paste combined with a healthy fat and you have activated turmeric.
Ways to use Activated Turmeric (AT) -
Golden Milk - Place AT and honey in a mug and pour over warmed raw full cream milk. Add spices such as cardamon, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh ginger etc to taste. This is a wonderful beverage to have before bed. Start with half a teaspoon of AT and build up of time. If using almond, coconut or rice milk, a healthy fat such as coconut oil or Udo’s oil must be added.
Cook brown rice in chicken stock with AT, coconut oil and spices.
Add AT to a smoothie - raw milk, banana, coconut oil, honey.
Add AT to any meal and make sure to include a healthy fat.
